Why does mijeje.com exist?
As you may or may not have guessed, my name is Tan, and I am currently residing in Hanoi, Vietnam. I was born and raised in the democratic and capitalistic society of the United States of America. I am Vietnamese-American, but I have spent most of my life either rejecting or ignoring my Vietnamese heritage.
I suppose on some level, I have decided to study abroad in Vietnam to find my roots, and myself. However, I will be the first to say that my identity will not be complete if I ignore either my Vietnamese side, or my American side. Both are essential in defining who I am and who I will become in the years to come.
But for now, this blog is simply present to record my 4 month experience in Vietnam, the first time I have ever set foot in this country. I hope you enjoy my entries as much as I enjoy writing them. I cannot promise that I will update daily, though I do try. I can promise, however, that every comment left on my blog leaves me just a little less homesick and just a little more happy.
